Affirmations and how the can help you become successful.

What is Affirmations?

An affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one's self and written down frequently. For an affirmation to be effective, it needs to be present tense, positive, personal and specific.  Affirmations can be in words and in pictures (or both).

Affirmations can help:

  • Change weaknesses into strengths.
  • Change attitudes.
  • Focus on what you want for yourself.
  • Make beliefs
  • Constantly focus on to produce a desired result.

Remember

  1. To use affirmations, speak in the present tense and describe what you want as if it is already true.
  2. Focus on what you want, not what you don't want.
  3. Realize you have to take 100% responsibility
  4. Using repetition will help you have a strong belief in its accomplishment
Affirmation guidelines
1.    Keep it positive
2.    Stat it in the present tense
3.    Have it be specific starting with the words “I”
4.    Think about what you want not don’t want, if I say don’t slam the door, you think about slamming the door…instead close the door softly (that brings that image up)
5.    If say I am going to Miami, this brings up images of traveling.  Instead say I am in Miami.
6.    Declare its already true and how it will make you feel.

Here are some examples of using affirmations!

  • Let’s say you are afraid of heights and don’t want to be afraid, say to yourself as an affirmation, “I am enjoying the beautiful views by being high up.”

  • Don’t say, “I will not lose my temper.” Say, “I am relaxed, calm and patient.”

  • Don’t say. “I won't break my diet.” Say, “I prefer nutritious foods.”

  • “I am not afraid of public speaking” gives the message that you are afraid. Use, “I feel at ease as I speak in public.”

  • If you want to quit smoking; don’t say “I have to stop smoking.” Say, “I no longer enjoy smoking. Smoking is disgusting!”
